Is Barber Training Keeping Up With the Industry?

The barbering industry is constantly changing.

Trends develop, client expectations increase, technology evolves and the way barbers build their careers looks very different to what it did even a few years ago.

So training needs to change too.

At LTZ Training Academy, we believe training should reflect what actually happens in the industry. Learning the technical skills is essential, but learners also need experience dealing with real clients, adapting to different situations, communicating professionally and working within a barbershop environment.

We’re also looking at how digital learning can support practical education. Resources that learners can access outside of training allow face-to-face sessions to focus more on practice, coaching and feedback.

As trainers, we have a responsibility to keep developing too. We need to recognise gaps, listen to feedback and change our approach when something can be better.

The goal isn’t to prepare someone for the barbering industry of the past.

It’s to prepare them for the industry they’re about to enter — and give them the skills to keep developing as it changes.
