Developing More Than Barbering Skills at LTZ Training Academy

At LTZ Training Academy, we believe developing a successful barber requires much more than simply teaching someone how to perform a haircut.

Recently, some of our apprentices had the opportunity to learn from Martin, a highly experienced teacher and assessor, who joined us to deliver additional training focused around longer beard trims, consultation, structure and the importance of effectively using their Virtual Learning Environment (VLE).

The session gave our apprentices another opportunity to learn from someone with extensive experience in both practical education and assessment.

Looking Beyond the Practical Skill

Technical ability is obviously a major part of becoming a barber, but it is only one part of the profession.

A successful barber also needs to understand how to communicate with clients, carry out an effective consultation, explain their decisions, understand the structure behind a service and continually develop their knowledge.

That is something we aim to embed throughout training at LTZ.

Rather than apprentices simply being shown what to do, we want them to understand why they are doing it.

Martin’s session reinforced this approach by combining practical barbering knowledge with discussion around consultation, learning structure and the apprentices’ responsibility for using their VLE to support their development.

Learning From Experienced Educators

Bringing experienced teachers, assessors and industry professionals into our training environment gives our apprentices exposure to different perspectives and teaching styles.

It also allows them to ask questions, challenge their understanding and build confidence in areas that go beyond simply completing a practical service.

For us, this is an important part of creating a strong learning culture within LTZ Training Academy.

Building Barbers for Long-Term Careers

Our aim is not simply to help someone complete an apprenticeship or qualification.

We want to develop people who can progress within the barbering industry and build genuine long-term careers.

That means developing technical skills alongside consultation, communication, professionalism, confidence, knowledge and the right behaviours.

Sessions like this are another part of that journey.

A huge thank you to Martin for sharing his experience and knowledge with our apprentices and helping us continue to raise the standard of training we provide.

LTZ Training Academy – developing better barbers, building better professionals and creating careers.
